2014 CINEMA ITALIANO CLASSICO – MOVIE LINE-UP

Le Mattatrici

For the 2014 annual Cinema Italiano Classico we are going to present an homage to the Italian women who have left an indelible mark on the history of cinema.  The term “il mattatore” is usually reserved for the male actor who captures the limelight on the stage. This year we are going to apply it to the women who have been featured prominently as actors, directors, and writers, and have left a mark in comedy and drama.

The films we are going to see feature the talents of Mariangela Melato and Lina Wertmuller, respectively one of the protagonists and the director of Mimi Metallurgico, ferito nell’onore (The Seduction of Mimi),  of Giulietta Masina and Carla del Poggio, in the aptly titled Luci del Varieta’ (Variety Lights), of Sophia Loren, paired for the first time with Marcello Mastroianni in Peccato che Sia una Canaglia (Too Bad She’s Bad) and of the legendary Suso Cecchi D’Amico, the screenwriter of so many Italian successes.

All movies are in Italian with English subtitles and the admission is FREE.

As in the past, all movies will be introduced to our audiences by Anna Brusutti, Cinema Italiano Artistic Director.
