2013 CINEMA ITALIANO CONTEMPORANEO – MOVIE LINE-UP

Ciao, Amici!

This year our Cinema Selection Committee chose three very interesting movies, two comedies and one drama.  In selecting these three movies, we wanted to present to our Santa Barbara audience three different aspects of present-day Italian society.  All movies are in Italian with English subtitles and the admission is FREE.

As in the past, all movies will be introduced to our audience by Anna Brusutti, Cinema Italiano Artistic Director.

C’E’ CHI DICE NO  (Some Say No) – Comedy, 2010

 

Three young people who went to school together meet after 20 years.  They are all interviewing for their dream jobs.  Unfortunately, being the best in their fields is not as important as to have “friends in high places.”  They decide to take things in their own hands….

IL RESTO DELLA NOTTE  (The rest of the Night) – 2008 – drama

 It is three stories in one. The first is the story of an affluent upper-middle class family. The second is a story of some down-and-out struggling Romanian immigrants, one of whom is fired as the maid of the family when she is suspected of stealing. The third is the collision of these two worlds….

It is the story of two young people very much in love.  He wants marriage, she doesn’t but they both want at least one child… He works nights and she works during the day.  He wakes her up when he gets home after work and they make love…tutti i santi giorni, every blessed day.  But, in spite of all that amorous activity,  nothing is happening.  What do do?
